Frequently Asked Questions
We know growing hydroponically can be tricky, so here are the answers to your frequently asked questions! What is hydroponics?
Hydroponics is a method of growing plants in a nutrient-rich water solution.
The roots of the plants grow in water with a rich mix of nutrients dissolved in it.
Why choose a hydroponic system over soil gardening?
Plants that are grown hydroponically mature 25% faster than those plants grown in soil. Yields are bigger by 20% to 25% because the plants can directly get nutrients from the water and they grow in a closed and controlled environment.
What types of hydroponic growing systems exist?
Hydroponic systems can be grown anywhere and takes lesser space. It can be grown indoor or outdoor (even in your closet!).
What are the growing media for hydroponics?
There are a lot of commercially available mediums, the most popular ones are rockwool, stonewool, expanded clay, coconut fiber, and sand.
What hydroponic supplies do I need?
Aside from your hydroponic system and growing mediums, you will also need the following:
- PH testing kit - to test the acidity of your water
- TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) Pen - This measures the mineral content of your water.
The most common issue you will encounter is algae build-up in your system. To prevent this from happening, keep your solution away from light. Always keep your system's lids closed.
